My project focuses on the nkx genes and their role in proper heart chamber formation using Danio rerio as a model organism. Because it is known that the nkx-deficient heart tube doesn't elongate properly, our research is of significant importance in determining the origin of cardiac birth defects stemming from nkx inhibition or mutation.
