My focus is on the origin of and factors that affect the
addition of the secondary heart field. After neural crest
ablation there is decreased Cx43 expression in the field
and reduced myocardiogensis from the field. I am altering
expression of components of the FGF8 and BMP signaling
pathways in the secondary heart field using localized
in vivo electroporation function blocking antibodies
and drugs to determine the influence of these growth
factors on the development of myocardium from the
secondary heart field. In addition, I am working with
other members of the group to establish a molecular
map of genes expressed in the secondary heart field
using Laser Catapult Dissection.
